The centenary birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Nkrumah which falls on the 21st of September which has been declared a public holiday by an executive order of President J.E.A. Mills, would be heralded by a big forum to be held in Accra under the auspices of the Committee For Joint Action(CJA).
The big public forum, to be held next week Thursday , September 17, 2009 at the teachers hall in Accra at 4.00in the afternoon, would be on the topic,” the centenary of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his contributions to Ghana and Africa”
It would be held under the chairmanship of Mr. Ato Ahwoi, a leading member of the CJA, and chairman of the board of directors of Ghana National petroleum corporation (GNPC).
Crack speakers at the forum expected to draw one of the largest audiences in recent times would include Mr. Tsatu Tsikata, former executive officer of the Ghana national petroleum corporation and well known Ghanaian legal luminary, Mr. Abdul; Nasser, a lecturer at the university of Ghana, Mr. Scot Pwamang, an Accra legal practitioner and comrade Kwesi Pratt, managing editor of the insight newspaper, a leading Nkrumahist, and member of the committee for joint action.
The centenary celebrations of the birthday of the founder and father of the nation which falls on 21 September of this year is expected to be a year-long celebration befitting of Africa’s man of the 20th century, which title was conferred on him by the British broadcasting cooperation following a survey it conducted at the close of the last century.
Feverish preparations are on going across the country for big event. The famous mausoleum in Accra in his memory is currently under renovation to reshape the famous edifice in preparation for the year long events which are expected to draw huge crowds form the other African countries and the world at large.
The president, professor John Evans Ataa Mills got the rest of Africa to agree to celebrate the occasion across the African continent at this years AU conference held in Sirtre, Libya earlier in the year .
The committee charge with the celebrations, under the chairmanship of professor Akilakpa sawyer, former vice chancellor of the University of Ghana, is busy putting finding touches to the programme of activities for the big occasion.
The array of speakers linked up for the next week’s forum at the teachers’ hall is to ensure a lively and well informed public lecture to relive some of the founder’s memories and achievements of Osagyefo both in Ghana, on African continent particularly with regards to his role n the independence of the African countries from colonial domination and indeed across the black Diaspora.
A lively educative evening is assured and the general public is invited without exception.
Meanwhile, the official launch of activities marking the centenary celebration of Osagyefo, takes off today at the kwame Nkrumah memorial park in Accra.
The launching ceremony will be performed by President John Atta Mills.
